It was said that all important internal and external organs have been originated in the 10. part of “pregnancy week by week” series. We are starting the week 11 today.

Do you feel better now? Nausea should gradually subside. You can observe changes of your appearance and physical feelings due to hormonal changes in your body. In addition to thickening or thinning of your hair, your nails grow faster and you can even more sweat. At this point, you are at the end of the 1st trimester. The organs of your baby have been originated and it looks like a tiny human being now.

What happens in the week 11?

The head of the fetus, especially the brain part, is still very big in the 11th week of pregnancy. Origins of the skull develop. Also the muscles get recognizable. Nose narrows as well as the mouth. The chin gets defined. The eyelids join together and the eyes develop underneath.
9 weeks have passed since the conception and the baby develops at a rapid rate. This is the start of so called fetal period, when the body grows quickly in length and the organs get bigger and gradually ripen.

The infernal organs grow and some of them begin working. The heart beats. The livers produce blood cells. Individual vertebrae of the spine are cartilaginous, but will soon change to bones similarly like ribs. They are visible thanks to the thin skin.

Week 11 is over

The womb fills up whole pelvis at the end of the 11th week of pregnancy. The baby has still a lot of space for training because it is as big as a small lemon and weighs less than 10 grams. His movements are not recognizable so far. The placenta grows in order to supply enough oxygen and nutrients needed by the fetus more and more. It can already swallow the amniotic fluid in which it also urines.
